Bridal Portrait with Evelyn Blane Waite

Bridal portraits are not just for before the wedding ceremony! My friend Evelyn was married on November 12, 2010 in Tennessee. Evelyn and her husband, Brandon Waite, live in Muncie, Ind.
There are no rules as to when a bridal portrait should be done.

I like photographing newlyweds, who have had destination weddings or return to their hometown to be married.

A bridal portrait or newlywed shoot after the wedding can be very relaxed because there are no time constraints such as on the actual wedding day. Capturing a couple in love without the pressure of time can enhance the photo shoot. It may not be the actual day, but things happen.

For instance, there are no guarantees that if you have a fall or winter wedding you would be able to shoot outdoors. It could rain in the spring or summer. If you plan to have a photo shoot after the wedding, you can control the weather.

If you would like to just do more wedding photography and have the budget to do so, have another photo session! You paid a lot of money for the dress and the suit...get your money's worth!

Bridal portraits before the ceremony are a gorgeous way to display your bridal beauty with prints on display at your ceremony or wedding reception. No one needs to see the pictures before your big day, but having the portrait already finished will add an elegant touch to your reception.

Stay tuned for more portraits of Evelyn and Brandon in the months to come as the weather warms up and the garden's grow green.

At home with Hand Tied Memories

I couldn't resist asking Marta and DeWayne King, from Hand Tied Memories, if I could photograph some of their bridal bouquets and table arrangements for this blog. The beautiful arrangements you see in my photographs are the pieces shown at the Anderson Bridal Show on March 5th. The Kings coordinated the event for the last five years as well presented as a vendor at the show.

Marta's floral arrangements are so fragrant, I wish you could smell them through the internet as much as see them.  One thing that really caught my eye within Marta's composition in her bouquets is that she uses color and texture to entice the senses. Her use of feathers and silky ribbons enhances the soft, elegant look and feel of holding the bouquet. Every bouquet I picked up to photograph brought a smile to my face, and I think I commented that I wouldn't know which one to pick because they were all so beautiful. Marta is a patient, kind woman who will listen to your ideas and try to accommodate you dream bouquet as much as she possibly can. I have a feeling she goes above and beyond what brides ask...she is just that kind of person. She would be a great addition to your vendor list!

What?! Another wedding blog?

After spending the last ten years working in social work, I decided I wanted to try again in journalism. I wanted to surround myself with beautiful things and celebrations. What better way to do this than to choose weddings as a topic for my independent study in photography this semester. I am a Graduate Student in Journalism at Ball State University. I received my BS degree from the University of Southern Indiana in 2000, and many things have changed technologically in journalism since then. The Internet has revolutionized the industry!

Weddings are my avenue to do something beautiful with my camera, and show you the wedding world through my eyes. I would hope to some day be able to do this professionally in my journalism career or teach others how to do it once I have my Master's Degree.

I am inspired by The Knot, Martha Stewart Weddings, The Wedding Channel, and Bride's Magazine. I love TV shows like Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, Say Yes to the Dress and Martha Stewart Living.

I have almost completed my first year of grad school, and have loved my studio lighting class. I especially love the fact that I can borrow equipment from our media lab so that I can practice my craft. Using different lenses, camera and video equipment has been like putting on new glasses for the first time and truly being able to see.

I love weddings, and I hope this is interesting and useful for you! In Wedding Wonderland is a take off of Alice in Wonderland, as that was my favorite book as a child. I'm curious to venture through East Central Indiana looking for weddings to feature for this blog. The weddings will be real, not staged. I am looking for more vendors to feature during the actual wedding season.

Being creative with Mona Bever from Under The Sun Bakery

Mona is preparing for a bridal show this weekend, but took some time out of her busy schedule to work on a creative project with me.
When I told her I attempted and failed to make fudge for a food photography assignment and recreate a wedding favor seen on www.marthastewartweddngs.com, she thought the idea was worth the effort to give it another try. She made a pan of creamy chocolate fudge, and invited me out to her bakery.

We used five different sizes of circle cookie cutters into the fudge, and it was difficult
at first as the fudge was solid. Mona suggested that we use a little oil to grease the inside
of the cutter so that the fudge would slide right out. It did! We only had that one pan of fudge
to make a favor, but I am sure the future favors will be absolutely picture perfect!  She is a
wonderful lady to include in your wedding vendor list. She loves what she does for
a living, and enjoys taking creative suggestions from brides to make their wedding extra special.
